Job Summary

Reviews TVA Projects, Programs, and Permits for effects to cultural resources. Determines if a desktop review office review is adequate, or if field reconnaissance/survey is necessary. Determines if the TVA undertaking can be approved as-is or if protective/mitigative measures are needed for cultural resources.

Conducts small-scale field reconnaissance’s for the purpose of identifying cultural resources that could be potentially impacted by proposed TVA actions.

Conducts analysis and evaluation of cultural resources identified during reconnaissance’s and using resultant data, writes reports for stakeholder comments. Analysis and evaluation involves identification, classification, and interpretation of artifacts from field reconnaissance to inform the resulting reconnaissance report.

Reviews and ranks managed task contractor proposals, monitors contracted work, and reviews managed task deliverable (e.g. cultural resources reports).

Supervision Received

Technical direction provided by Project Specialist. Overall supervision, priorities, and administrative control provided by Senior Archaeologist. Limited control is provided while conducting fieldwork. While work is reviewed for adequacy and conformance with TVA policy, incumbent must exercise considerable personal initiative and independence in carrying out duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

Post-graduate degree in Anthropology (prehistory specialization) or equivalent, Archaeology, or closely related field and three to five years experience.

Must have demonstrated proficiency in prehistoric archaeology as evidenced by completion of COO Scientific Progression Program or equivalent post graduate education and experience.
