Job Description

More than Tools

Mikron Tool is an international leader in the development and manufacture of carbide cutting tools. We are a Swiss company that is constantly growing, driven by a passion for innovation and technology. We specialize in the production of small and medium-sized high-performance tools for machining the most challenging materials, such as stainless steels, heat-resistant alloys and titanium. In one of the most modern technology centers for micro-machining, we also develop holistic machining processes – including for customer projects.

Thanks to our expertise, we develop sustainable, efficient and somewhat ‘crazy’ machining solutions, offering high added value for our customers.

For our new manufacturing plant in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, we are looking for a Grinding Machinist.

Your main tasks

  • Set up and operate CNC tool and cylindrical grinding machines (e.g., ANCA and Rollomatic) to manufacture high-precision carbide cutting tools according to technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure consistent product quality by performing in-process measurements, tool inspections, and adjustments to meet tight tolerances and customer requirements.
  • Reduce scrap and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain machines, tooling, and workspace in optimal condition, ensuring adherence to safety standards and contributing to reliable, uninterrupted production.
  • Interpret technical drawings, tool layouts, and specifications to ensure accurate tool geometry and performance.
  • Conduct in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Adjust machine parameters and tooling proactively to correct deviations and maintain consistency.
  • Monitor and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, scrap rate, and machine utilization.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to improve processes, tooling strategies, and product performance.
  • Follow safety procedures, 5S standards, and company guidelines to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Document production data, issues, and improvements accurately to support traceability and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, & Skills

  • Strong technical expertise in CNC grinding, preferably with Rollomatic (and/or ANCA) machines.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting metric engineering drawings, tool blueprints, and geometric tolerances (GD&T).
  • Experience with CNC programming and grinding software (ToolRoom, VGPro).
  • Skilled in using precision inspection instruments (micrometers, calipers, optical measurement systems).
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot machining and quality issues independently.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement, and process optimization techniques.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining high attention to detail and quality.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, adapt to changing priorities, and support production demands (including shift work if required).

Employment Qualifications
